Whooooooo R U??

Lot's of whoooing going on around here!  I swear I am starting to like owls now, spot them everywhere. My last spinning swap pal loved them.

As well as a fellow knitter here.  She did not know if boy or girl, but she wanted everything owly...

So in addition to the soakers, I whipped these burp cloths up!


Here's a stack of them! I used this tutorial!  We met wee baby Caleb yesterday (1 week old!) and the top one is in use.  I forgot how little babies are!

Flannel works great and I washed both the diapers and the flannel and used a bit of vinegar in the flannel load to help with possible dye runoff.

So, see these cute owls here.  I was going to use this fabric for the above burp cloths, but found out the flannel is much better.

My LQS (local quilt shop) where I hung out a bit prior to full time working was collecting pillowcases for various charities.  Last year I think I sewed 20 or so.  It was fun finding the solids to match.

What started out from one of these braids....



Became this skein.....



Which was knitted up like this...

Gah...about 2" from this picture is when I ran out of yarn...

Note that first picture...yeah, I was saved, I had another braid!  So, I did what any other spinner that had an extra braid of fiber....tore a hunk off and spun it up.

You see 40 more yards here in this wee little yarn cake....


The weight was more like worsted where the prior handspun was a sport/dk weight...

However, to finish the crown decreases...it didn't matter..

I.LOVE.this hat!!  Wished it was colder!  It fits perfect and the Finn does not bother me at all!

Love this colorway. Have almost a full braid left and a skein that looks a bit different due to a different fiber and way of spinning. Interesting how that happens ;)

Sigh..will have to wait for next winter...sure hope we are still in a cold climate though....hmmmmm...

Not too thrilled about the yellow bullseye...you know I dislike yellow ;)

I had 2 skeins and thought it was a great idea to use up the first skein on the garter part and the 2nd on the ribbed section...well, should have knit the garter section to the full 9" and then the ribbed section to finish...oh well, still have some leftovers.

Love the colors, it'll go with a lot!

More Baby Knits

The last of them for a bit I think :)

One of the girls in our knitting group is having a baby in the next few weeks and plans to cloth diaper and use soakers.  So we got together and now she has about 12 of them.  Here are my two contributions.

Snapdragon Soaker

Malabrigo Worsted in Emerald Blue
US 5 & 8 needles
No mods, except for not knitting the YO row for the drawstring tie.

This one was knit from leftovers of Malabrigo worsted too.

The variegated is Col China and the other is Burgundy, left over from a UFO...yeah, think I need to finish that one.


I'm sure they will be put to good use!

Well hello there!

Whew! Has it really been a month! It's been interesting getting back into the 40 hr work week again. I did get used to the part time hours and having more free time. There has been knitting and spinning going on, just taking more time than ususal to finish.

Here's a blanket I started in August. The baby was due in February, but came 1 month early. I finished the other day and it's going out in the mail tomorrow.





The purple is hard to capture just so.

I love the green and wanted to do a different edge.

Dream in Color Classy- Pansy Go Lightly (2 skeins) and 1/4 skein of Happy Forest
US 8 circulars

Notes: used Judy's magic cast on with a long circular, then switched to dpns until it grew enough to fit on a 24" circular.  Ended using a 40" circular and 420 stitches.  Knit 3 garter ridges for edging, then a c/o 3 and bind off 6 for the picot bind off.

I had always wanted to knit one....um..now I can say I have ;)  Perfect for TV knitting....will I knit another one....not anytime too soon ;)

My Bloody Viking

What started out as this lovely Polwarth fiber from Southern Cross Fibre



Turned into this mostly bulky n-ply yarn.

Why my bloody viking you ask? Well the colorway name is Eric, you know from Trueblood. It was always destined to be around my neck. ;)

Finally found a pattern to use my low amount of yardage with (136 yds)

It's the Mr. Cowl pattern by Dani Sunshine.
US 10 needles
9h x 9.5" wide
No mods. A great, easy pattern.


Still cold in the early mornings around here, so it's perfect.



Best part, it matches my Cashmere Leaves hat I knit. I lost the cowl I knit in the same aran cashmere yarn, so My Bloody Viking Cowl will do ;)


Oh, and the secret I couldn't talk about, after 1.5 years of trying, I have found a full time job, M-F!! I start on the 11th. Not in x-ray, but still in the medical field using my first degree.  I now have 3 career fields I can use wherever we live.  Now to get used to working all week long and weekends off.....oh and the best part, NO more 3 am shifts!

Puppy Dog Tails

Ever since I first saw this fiber spun up, I wanted it. It was a club colorway from Southern Cross Fibre, a few months before I got into the club (my one and only one...hey, I waited a looong time for this club ;)


Puppy Dog Tails Superwash Merino from Southern Cross Fibre,
4 oz., 264 yds of sportweight

I got lucky on a destash and it turned out to be perfect for my Snobby Holiday Swap partner.

It's a lovely, soft superwash merino. I tried to divide evenly...um...but I had a few issues, so I just went with the flow and spun it up.

I didn't get a skeined shot as it was a few days before Christmas, I had a houseful of people and had to start immediately to finish for the deadline....

My goal was sock weight....got more of a sportweight and sadly not enough for the size needed for my swap partner....What you see here is only 1 of 2 yarn cakes.



So I went with plan B....

Here are the n-ply leftovers...they turned out to be plan C....


B is for Lacey Baktus

Turned out pretty well I think!  I knit the smaller yarn cake (by a few grams) first, then tied on the 2nd yarn cake and started the decreases. Used a US 7 needle with no mods.


Baktus on a Bush!  It's a really easy pattern and works great for handspun too.

Oh...the plan C....it turned out to be an Owl Puff

Size US 7 needles, no mods.  Most of these are knit up with 2 or more colors. I thought some stripey yarn worked even better.  My swap partner likes owls.
